Radial Arterial Line Video
The wrist is extended and secured to an arm board with tape. Now Chlorhexidine swabs are used to prep the wrist twice. The wrist is now sterilely draped with blue towels.
This is a radial arterial line catheter showing that the wire can be advanced through the needle, the radial pulse is now palpated and then the catheter will be introduced at about a 30 degree angle, until an arterial flash is seen as is demonstrated there.
The wire is now advanced all the way through the needle until it can no longer be advanced, and then the white catheter is advanced over wire with a rotating motion, and then the entire needle and wire are removed. The arterial line tubing is now being connected to the catheter hub, with a good arterial wave form. And now the catheter is being secured to the skin with suture. An air knot is being tied over the skin, and then the suture will be threaded around the groove within the catheter and this can be repeated on both sides.
A sterile op site can be applied over the catheter to complete the procedure.
